You may have noticed some changes when you logged into Facebook this morning and a stream of angry status updates about the changes as well. Here’s a lil run down of the changes and how to understand what’s happening on Facebook today.
News Feed: See What Matters at the Top
One of the new changes is the news feed. “News Feed will act more like your own personal newspaper,” Facebook says in a blog post. Facebook has removed “Top Stories and Most Recent” links on the top of the News Feed and replaced it with a feed that adjusts content based on the last time you checked it. If you haven’t been on Facebook for a few days it will pull the top stories from your network. If you’re a more frequent visitor of Facebook, your News Feed will act on the most recent content in chronological order. Facebook has also given the ability to mark and unmark a “Top Story” in your news feed. Photos are also going to be a lot larger while you’re scrolling through as well.
Ticker: Join Friends in Real-Time
The second change to take affect is the real-time ticker on the right side of the page. Sometimes there’s a lag with the “News Feed” and depending on how many friends you have things can get missed or overlooked. “Ticker shows you the same stuff you were already seeing on Facebook, but it brings your conversations to life by displaying updates instantaneously. Now when a friend comments, asks a question or shares something like a check in, you’ll be able to join the conversation right away. Click on anything in ticker to see the full story and chime in – without losing your place”, says Facebook.
Birthday Wishes: All in one spot
Sending Birthday wishes just got a lil easier with less steps. Now when you see the individuals who are celebrating their birthday on the right side of your “News Feed” you will be able to now send them a wish without visiting their page. You can now send everyone a birthday wish by simply click on the birthdays icon and a pop up will reveal itself with an option to input a message right there for each individual. You can keep track of who you’ve already wished a happy birthday and whom is still needing some birthday love!
There are definitely a lot more changes to come and minor tweaks happening all the time on Facebook but hope this clears up a little about what’s happened with Facebook today!
